WHERE IS THIS PLACE CALLED THE MATOBO HILLS?
Situated in the southern part of Zimbabwe is a city called Bulawayo in the province of Matabeleland, which is second to the capital, Harare. Approximately 30km from Bulawayo is some of the most majestic land ever created on the face of this earth, called the Matobo Hills.
The Matobo Hills are full of mystery and intrigue. Here are some interesting facts for you:
Largest population of Leopard in the world per kilometre squared, due to the abundance of their favourite food - the Dassie.
Largest Black Eagle population in the world (2nd largest bird of prey in Africa). If you love to bird watch then this is definately one of the finest areas to do so.
Set in dry and arid Matabeleland the heavily wooded valleys surrounded by giant granite boulders has helped create micro climates which house the widest variety of trees in Zimbabwe.
These hills have been the favoured haunt of famous men from the shy bushmen, warrior King Mzilikazi, Cecil John Rhodes and countless tourists.
